Lambent Server 0.1.0 for Mac

Lambent Server for Mac brings your video library to Lambent on Apple Vision Pro over your local network. This is the first Mac release: the same library server as Windows, signed and notarized by Apple for direct download.

What’s new

  • First release for macOS (Apple silicon).
  • Watches the folders you choose and serves them to your headset: newest first, multipart videos shown as one title, per-title overrides, and resume positions.
  • Fast local streaming over TCP and QUIC (“Turbo”) with automatic discovery on your network (Bonjour).
  • Files your headset can’t play are prepared automatically with lossless picture handling and audio conversion where needed.
  • Menu-bar item, Start at login, and a Transport/Diagnostics panel with system-settings shortcuts.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 or later on an Apple silicon Mac. Intel Macs are not supported in this release.
  • Apple Vision Pro and the Mac on the same local network. For best results, connect the Mac over Ethernet and the headset over 5 or 6 GHz Wi-Fi.
  • ffmpeg is required and is not bundled: brew install ffmpeg. The app finds Homebrew and MacPorts installs even when launched from Finder; a custom path can be set in Settings.

Install

  1. Download LambentServer-0.1.0-arm64.dmg from the download page.
  2. Open the DMG and drag Lambent Server to Applications.
  3. Open Lambent Server from Applications.
  4. On first launch, macOS asks to allow incoming connections, and on macOS 15 and later it also asks for Local Network access. Allow both: the headset needs them to find and reach your Mac. If you denied either, open the Transport/Diagnostics panel in the app — it has buttons that open the right System Settings panes.
  5. Install ffmpeg if you haven’t: brew install ffmpeg, then use Check again in Diagnostics or set the path in Settings.

Verify the download

In Terminal, from the folder containing the DMG:

shasum -a 256 LambentServer-0.1.0-arm64.dmg

The output should match exactly:

e212a14bfbdc1f3002c096b87955e8a7c968cb165196d8d8da48e8cb4a4ed785

File: LambentServer-0.1.0-arm64.dmg, about 10 MB. The app is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, and is distributed from the Lambent website — not the Mac App Store.

Known limitations

  • No auto-update in this release. New versions are downloaded and installed manually.
  • Logging out may skip saving the last few seconds of library state. Quitting normally is unaffected.
  • After waking from sleep, the Mac may not re-announce itself on the network right away. If your headset can’t find it, restart the app.
  • Apple silicon only (arm64). Intel Macs are not built.

Why there is no “Enhance on PC” yet

“Enhance on PC” (live upscaling of the picture on the computer) is not in this release — on Mac or on Windows. It is planned for Windows PCs with an NVIDIA RTX GPU in a later release, as an extra enhancer component. The reason it can’t run on the Mac is the video encoder, not the graphics speed: Apple silicon’s encoder tops out at around 30 frames per second at 8K, and live 8K enhancement needs 60. The graphics itself is fast enough, but half the frames is not an option for viewing. Mac users use “Enhance on headset” instead, which runs on Vision Pro. The headset app hides the PC option automatically when connected to a Mac server.
